Bishop Thomas Coke, ordained priest in the Church of England, ordained bishop and sent by John Wesley to America, where he ordained Francis Asbury deacon, elder, and bishop over three days at the Christmas Conference at Lovely Lane Chapel in Baltimore in 1784. Died aboard ship on his way to missionary service in India.
